#104 Construction Details of BJP New Head Office at Central Delhi

The office will have wi-fi, underground parking, conference halls, media facilities, eateries, studios, a library and reading room. BJP chief Amit Shah and his team of office-bearers have held consultations with leading architects to give final shape to the design. Two acres on Deen Dayal Upadhyay Marg-Rouse Avenue, near ITO crossing, has already been allocated to the party.
A host of offices of RSS-affiliated organisations too are located in the area. The party finds the Type-VIII bungalow converted into headquarters at 11 Ashoka Road "too small" for its activities. Though the headquarters saw the construction of an auditorium and several office rooms during the tenure of Nitin Gadkari as BJP chief, the ruling party feels it needs larger space and more facilities.
"The bhoomi puja and rituals will be performed at the site on DDU Marg during Navratras in April and the construction will begin after that. We hope to shift to the new headquarters before the next Lok Sabha elections," a senior BJP leader said.
Unlike regional parties which operate mainly from the residence of its senior-most leaders, BJP andCongress headquarters bustle with activity with senior party leaders frequenting the place often and holding meetings and press conferences. Shah prefers to hold meetings and strategy sessions with his party colleagues and Union ministers in the party headquarters, especially during late evenings.
These discussions stretch till late into the night during polls. All major political parties — including Congress, BJP and Left parties — were allotted land to build offices as the present locations from where these parties operate are in Lutyens Delhi and their activities like protests, felicitations, celebrations accompanied by bursting of crackers and use of loudspeakers etc lead to frequent traffic disruptions and inconvenience the public.
BJP sources said the facade and architecture of the party's new headquarters will be traditional but the buildings will have all modern and hightech facilities. The main building will be six-storeyed, while the structures on the perimeter will be three-storeyed.
One model proposed to the party by Arvind Nandapurkar Associates, the architect firm which designed the layout, had a helipad on top of the main building but it is not clear if the party will accept the design. The building will be eco-friendly and materials like hollow bricks will be used to keep the temperature bearable.
Solar panels for providing additional power will also be installed. An underground parking will also be built. Several conference rooms, auditoriums, studios for spokespersons and leaders to participate in TV debates, a wellequipped library, documentation centre and reading room, computer terminals, spacious media centre, eateries and coffee shops will be part of the new headquarters.
The design of the new complex includes a seven-storey building with three-storied complexes on either side. The main building will have 70 rooms along with three conference rooms. The entire campus will be Wi-fi enabled with provisions of water harvesting, solar power and multi-level underground parking for more than 150 cars.
Access controlled gates will be another feature.
“Seventy percent of campus will be developed as green area,” a BJP leader associated with the project said. District units of the party will be able to access the digital library that is being proposed on the campus. The interiors are being designed to have a traditional, yet modern, look.
